Description
Summary
The massive emigration of academics and qualified professionals (i.e. Brain drain) is among the social phenomena that currently raise the concern of social scientists and political actors. However, it is noted that the said phenomenon does not induce the same consequences from one society to the other. However, most of the available studies analyse the impacts of this phenomenon exclusively from an economic perspective, namely in terms of investment costs/returns. But there is more to it.
This book aims at approaching this from the perspective of the state-building process. Therefore, It is argued that brain drain has a negative impact on societies in sub-Saharan Africa. Actually, we suggest the idea of introducing a “development tax, as a solution that could help mitigate the negative impact of this phenomenon on the state-building process in postcolonial Africa. This tax would solely be paid by Africans in the diaspora.
